Looks like you're loosing bytes either coming from the other end or sent by
you (more likely coming from the other end though). That could be caused by
several things, therefore, there are several things you should try.
First of all, I would try increasing the size of the FOSSIL buffer. Secondly,
(and this worked for me back when i had similar problems) I would load the
FOSSIL before running DESQview. Inside any DESQview window that uses FOSSIL I
would run CAPTURE (or whatever your FOSSIL uses to make sure it is in
command).
If that does not help, I would increase the number of ticks avaliable to the
BBS windows. Finally, if nothing else helps, I would only run DESQview aware
programs in the non-BBS window while the BBS is transfering files.
As I said, I had a similar problem and all it took to fix it was switching to
X00.SYS, loading it from CONFIG.SYS (using LOADHI.SYS), then running CAPTURE
in the BBS window. This way not only do I have absolutely no problems in the
BBS window, I can even run another communications program in another window
(I often call my own BBS over the phone line from the same computer when I
need to test something).

Could you explain how to get 570K with a VGA on a 386 under
QEMM/Desqview? The largest I have seen is 520K... My QEMM config.sys
entry excludes the VGA area from the memory map, and a couple things
are loaded hi from the autoexec, then I run XDV. The max conventional
memory space I get is 520K, but I've never been able to get that due to
the shared memory requirements (poorly documented). I am running DOS
3.3, so I'm hoping that you're not getting 570K running an obsolete
version.

Don't you hate it when that happens? Well, if they work outside of DV then
the seek errors can't be your harddisk/controller.
Only thing I can think of must have occured to you allready, but I'll give it
to you just incase.
Have you studied what's going on in your reserved memory? Are you including
areas that are also used by option roms, bios, shadow ram, etc?
I've heard that the qemm will not automatically tell you which areas to avoid,
and that you have to dig to get that information.

Assuming you have allready optimized communications, and that your board
resides in window #1 you could, noticing a memory intensive operation about
to take place, change the quick window params on the fly to give it more
clock ticks.
I have run a dlx bbs with 8 lines active in the background and only noticed
that for some reason it didn't like 25mhz so we keep it at 16mhz.

You get the award for the easiest question of this session!
Yes, DV 386 better bloody well come with qemm. It includes 2 disks.
One is the DV program which can be run on 88's and 286's as well.
The other disk is the qemm which of course is specifically for a 386.

Try getting a 16550AN chip. I used to have that problem under DoubleDOS
sometimes (two line BBS, if both lines had somebody downloading at the same
time that problem would sometimes occur) and using the buffered UART solved
it for me.
Haven't had any problems of that nature at all since then, and I'm now running
a two line BBS and sometimes 3 or four other "personal" tasks all at the same
time.

Someone told me that function was defeated in DV to save memory or whatever.
Use this instead (it works):
command < com2: > com2:
or get a registered copy of DOORWAY 2.05, a super program that allows you to
run any program remotely, even direct screen write.

Try telling DV that the program displays graphics.

Hmmm, can't explain that one.

No that on.
